Ciara began her journey in music at age six when she fell in love with the piano through the nurturing of her amazing music teacher, Ms. Denise. Ms. Denise taught Ciara first and foremost to love music, and love she did! She learned at an early age to read notes and play by ear and by age ten she was playing keyboard in her church band. This is when she discovered her passion for sharing music with others through collaboration and her ears began to open up to how all the different players, instruments, and vocalists intertwined to create the full spectrum and frequencies of sounds. At age sixteen, Ciara headed to music school to pursue a degree in classical Piano Performance. It was here that she also started to study jazz, private voice, choral arranging, and orchestration. After college she opened her first music school at the age of 21. She was teaching students of all ages and sharing her love and passion for music with everyone around her. She also began playing in rock bands, finally really digging into the songwriting that had been tugging at her since she was a young girl. In 2005, Ciara headed to San Francisco to pursue her dream of being a musician in the city that to her represented freedom, love, and creative expression. She dove full force into the music scene, played in several bands and local jams, until she found her way to the friends and members of what would be the rock band, Hidden in the Sun. Hidden in the Sun raised $20,000 in a kickstarter to record and release their album, Seven Seasons. During this time, Ciara was casually forming what is now McAllister Music Studio. She was teaching out of her apartment and eventually brought on her first round of teachers to help with the tremendous load of inquiries she was getting from interested students. In 2015, she opened her first commercial space, at Haight and Fillmore in the Lower Haight which hosts 2 private teaching studios and a small common space which still hosts MMS’s infamous “Lower Haight Music Night” open mic nights. By 2017, the Lower Haight studio was bursting at the scenes and so she began operation to open her second commercial space, MMS mission which hosts 3 teaching studios, a state of the art recording studio, and another open space for small events, living room style concerts, and recording sessions. I began taking piano lessons when I was 6 years old and fell in love instantly. I had a wonderful piano teacher, whom I adored, who taught me to understand music theory & read music, but also taught me to play by ear & improvise. She taught me to understand the language of music but she also taught me how to stray from the page and create the music that was inside me. To this day, I am eternally grateful for that. When I was 10, I started playing in my church band. It was here that I discovered my passion for playing music with other musicians. This is still a passion that I share to this day. I began teaching private lessons to the kids in my neighborhood when I was 13. I have been teaching private lessons and group workshops ever since. I have a degree in classical piano performance, but have always continued my pursuit of playing in other styles as well (jazz, pop, funk). Over the years, I have accompanied choirs, accompanied soloists, taught private lessons, taught group workshops, played in many different bands, and have ultimately been narrowing my focus toward the aspects of music that I love the most. Lizzie met Ciara McAllister in 2006 when the two began working together as music teachers for a performing arts summer camp based out of San Francisco and the two have been working together ever since. Lizzie is also deeply passionate about singer/songwriters and has been writing her own music since 2005, performing in many venues around the Bay Area. Eventually, Lizzie joined up with Ciara (and other close friends) and helped to form the band Hidden in the Sun, an indie-rock band that features Lizzie as the lead singer and one of the contributing writers. As the lead vocalist in that group, her singing prowess has been described as both “striking” and “galvanizing” by Pop Music critic Steve Hochman of The California Report. She is currently creating music for her new solo project Mother First. Ciara began her journey in music at age six when she fell in love with the piano through the nurturing of her amazing music teacher, Ms. Denise. Ms. Denise taught Ciara first and foremost to love music, and love she did! She learned at an early age to read notes and play by ear and by age ten she was playing keyboard in her church band. This is when she discovered her passion for sharing music with others through collaboration and her ears began to open up to how all the different players, instruments, and vocalists intertwined to create the full spectrum and frequencies of sounds. At age sixteen, Ciara headed to music school to pursue a degree in classical Piano Performance. It was here that she also started to study jazz, private voice, choral arranging, and orchestration. After college she opened her first music school at the age of 21. She was teaching students of all ages and sharing her love and passion for music with everyone around her. She also began playing in rock bands, finally really digging into the songwriting that had been tugging at her since she was a young girl. In 2005, Ciara headed to San Francisco to pursue her dream of being a musician in the city that to her represented freedom, love, and creative expression. She dove full force into the music scene, played in several bands and local jams, until she found her way to the friends and members of what would be the rock band, Hidden in the Sun. Hidden in the Sun raised $20,000 in a kickstarter to record and release their album, Seven Seasons. During this time, Ciara was casually forming what is now McAllister Music Studio. She was teaching out of her apartment and eventually brought on her first round of teachers to help with the tremendous load of inquiries she was getting from interested students. In 2015, she opened her first commercial space, at Haight and Fillmore in the Lower Haight which hosts 2 private teaching studios and a small common space which still hosts MMS’s infamous “Lower Haight Music Night” open mic nights. By 2017, the Lower Haight studio was bursting at the scenes and so she began operation to open her second commercial space, MMS mission which hosts 3 teaching studios, a state of the art recording studio, and another open space for small events, living room style concerts, and recording sessions. Ciara currently works as a coach and teacher for singer/songwriters and artists in San Francisco and around the country via Skype. As a producer, one of her favorite things is to be in the studio with a new artist and guide them along the journey of getting their music to come to life in the way they envision. She works as a songwriter, both for herself, other artists, and her students. She plays keyboard in various San Francisco bands, including Saintish, who is set to release their debut album in 2020. She has recently released the first two singles, Fairytale and Off the Hook, off her upcoming debut solo artist album, To Shimmering Light. As he grew, his early skills as a songwriter and instrumentalist led him to record a whole album's worth of original music before finishing high school. Andrew would go on to study music at UC Santa Cruz, focusing on classical and jazz piano. There he was awarded the prestigious University of California arts scholarship and the Costa award for excellence in jazz performance. Andrew's musical studies and performance experience at the higher education level broadened to a multitude of different global music cultures, including classical Hindustani music, the music of Central and Southeast Asia, and musical history of the African diaspora. This variety of influences has informed Andrew's unique, open-minded compositional prowess and well-rounded approach to music, which has led to success as a performer in numerous jazz, funk, afrobeat, hip hop, and indie-rock groups. He has toured extensively both across the U.S. and internationally as a keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist for a few of the bay area based bands that he has helped lead. His broad and diverse expertise- from classical piano fundamentals, note reading and playing by ear, to harmony, rhythm, pop, jazz and improvisation- have allowed him to cater to the unique goals, interests and learning styles of a wide range of different music students at all levels and ages. Growing up in Singapore, he began piano lessons at the age of 6. Pursuing music with passion and dedication, he completed the ABRSM exams at the age of thirteen. He studied classical music at the Nanyang School of Fine Arts for two years before breaking off and working under a private teacher until his high-school graduation. He performed in competitions and concerts around Singapore and South East Asia, both as a soloist and a chamber-music performer. He continued to nurture his passion for music at Saint Mary's College graduating in the Spring of 2019. During this time, he picked up the guitar and started writing music of his own. He also began giving private piano lessons to students in his community at St. Mary’s College and continued to hone his teaching skills by working as a writing adviser in the Center for Writing Across the Curriculum program. He is well versed in all styles and truly appreciates helping students explore music in the style that they feel excited to learn. At age 15, she graduated with honors in the piano and vocal divisions of the Shostakovich School of Music in Moscow. In 2007, Natalie began teaching private vocal, piano and music theory lessons for children. During this time she also began her work as a choral conductor with a group of 4-7 year olds. In two years time, she transformed this small ensemble into a nationally recognized chorus Velikan, from which two of her students become finalists of the popular TV show “VOICE-kids” in Russia. In 2010, Natalie began her pedagogical studies at Moscow State Teacher’s University and congruently worked in the public school system as a music teacher. In 2017, Natalie moved to Brooklyn, New York where she worked as a piano teacher, vocal coach and choral conductor. Her love of music solidified when she played in her church band as a teenager. It was then that she came to realize the power that music has to unite and heal people. This love brought her to Chicago, IL where she earned her Bachelor of Music Degree. Here she began teaching private lessons to a range of students ages 4-60. At this time, she also began to pour her energy into composition, music production, and recording. She began writing choral arrangements and leading church choir ensembles. Kate aims to guide her students to their own magical moments of musical discovery, nurturing them to pursue their own individual goals! In 2007, Patrick began his studies in Voice and Voice Pedagogy at The Pennsylvania State University, where he appeared in many productions on stage, and subsequently began his career as a voice teacher, preparing students for their collegiate entrance auditions. in 2013, after completing his undergraduate degree, Patrick moved the San Francisco to continue his studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Completing his Master’s at SFCM, Patrick continued teaching, building a successful private studio in both voice and piano, while beginning his performing career at San Francisco Opera, amongst other regional opera companies. Patrick loves working with students of all ages, and believes that every student has their own unique and distinct instrument. He transfers this knowledge to his voice and piano students, encouraging them to focus on discovering that instrument and making it as beautiful as it can be. After years of performing, Ashlee suspected she had finally found her true calling when she joined her school choir at age 11. By her first vocal competition just two months into being a resident choir member, she was named one of the top singers in her home state of Oklahoma, winning the Choral Directors Association’s All-District Honor Choir competition. At the three-day workshop in preparation for the competition, basking in and soaking up the direction of the guest clinician, Ashlee saw standing in front of her an example of exactly what she wanted to do with her life and from that point forward she set a path to realize her dream of becoming a music educator. Ashlee received a bachelor’s degree in Choral Conducting and Vocal and Instrumental Music Education in 2001 and immediately landed a choral directing position at a very successful public school. She furthered the choral program’s success by tripling it in size in her three years there. After feeling a little restrained by a conventional public school program, Ashlee set on a path to find a way to spread her love for music and share her creativity by creating her own programs, starting with Elmore Music Instruction, a private music education program where she has personally taught voice, piano and guitar to over 600 students since its inception. Satisfying her deepest desire of conducting and leading choirs and singing groups, Ashlee went on to found the Bartlesville Children’s Choir in 2008. The group’s success and growth inspired Ashlee to pursue her Master’s Degree in Music Education which she completed in 2010. She continued to lead the children’s choir onto further success which garnered Ashlee state-wide attention and eventually landing her the coveted role of Artistic Director of the Tulsa Children’s Chorus. Once in Tulsa and leading the Tulsa Children’s Chorus to winning first place twice at state competition, Ashlee started getting back to her performing roots on the weekends becoming a resident Dueling Pianist, starring in musical theatre productions and forming her own jazz group, the Ashlee Elmore Jazz Quintet, which just performed to a sold out crowd in her home state at Duet Jazz Club. In 2017, combining her love for choral music and musical theatre, Ashlee began Tulsa Youth Cabaret, an auditioned group of 9-18 year old musical theatre singers, performing for over 50,000 people since it began. Ashlee has been a friend and colleague of McAllister Music Studio since it began and we are thrilled she is making the move from Oklahoma to San Francisco so she can add her wealth of experience on a full-time basis to MMS. Studying and practicing her piano daily, Sarah won her first city piano competition at the age of 10 and has continued to perform ever since. She has performed as a soloist, in duets, in chamber ensembles and masterclasses, and has had the joy of performing in venues all around the world including New York, Boston, Florida, San Francisco, Spain Italy, Beijing, Shanghai, & Harbin. Gao was a finalist in the CLMAO International Piano Competition, received the Honor Prize in the Van Waynen Competition and has performed as an orchestral pianist with the NEC Philharmonia Orchestra, NEC Symphony Orchestra, and NEC Wind Ensemble. Sarah received her BM in Piano Performance from New England Conservatory in 2018 and is currently working on completely her MM in Piano Performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the guidance of professor Yoshikazu Nagai. Sarah has been teaching private piano and voice lessons alongside her performing for the past 6 years. She started playing the piano at age 5 & music has been a huge part of her life ever since. Coming from a family of musicians, she believes strongly that every person can enrich their life and soul by getting involved in music. At age 18, she was the youngest student to graduate from the Belgrade Conservatory of Music, where she was top of her class. This is also when she began passing on her love of piano as a teacher. She graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2013 with a Masters Degree in Piano Performance. Sofia has won over 20 international piano competitions in Italy, France, Austria, Greece, Slovakia, & the US. She has performed solo recitals in Paris, Geneva, Belgrade, Vienna, & San Francisco. She has performed as a soloist with the San Jose Youth Orchestra in the California Theater in San Jose, and also on their European Tour in Prague, Bratislava, & Ljubljana. Sofia has enjoyed teaching in the Bay Area for the last 4 years, as well as accompanying classical pieces and musical theater for the Berkeley Playhouse at the Julia Morgan Theater. She was also the pianist at the Palace Hotel in SF, where she performed an assortment of famous classical piano pieces along with a popular standards & music from film scores. She has been musical since age 6, writing songs on piano and turning kitchen pans into percussion sets. She studied jazz voice at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC, and completed her BA at Barnard College in 2015. Since moving to San Francisco, she has been teaching students of all ages and performing 2-3 times a week in restaurants, music venues and bars around the city. Performing solo sets for three hours, she has 4+ hours of repertoire in genres spanning from jazz, pop, original, instrumental and R&B. Her most memorable gig was a performance in Antarctica while working as a research assistant, sampling vocalizations of elephant seals as drum beats. A teacher at heart, she loves encouraging students to pursue music and find their voice. She credits her love and dedication for music to her inspiring teachers that encouraged her in formative years. It means the world to be able to bring the joy of music to her students. For young beginners, she finds it is best to follow rote lesson plans, but also incorporate students’ favorite songs to captivate interest. For intermediate levels, she introduces advanced theory concepts and ear training. She believes a strong musician incorporates a healthy dose of sight-reading and classical training as well as mastering chords and learning by ear. By day, a Steinway piano sales representative, by night a performing and recording musician and music instructor, Aaron finds comfort (as a Gemini) in the duality of two careers: piano industry & music. Aaron is a core member of NYC based Dapp Theory, and performs and records on soprano & alto sax, clarinet, bass clarinet, duduk, vocals and keyboard programming. Aaron's avante-rock band 'Education Reform' features his original song-writing, vocals, keyboard programming and sampled sounds from his experiences as a kindergarten teacher in Queens, NY. Aaron collaborates with other musicians in California, Michigan, New York and Wisconsin. Armed with the knowledge that the best music is beyond category, Aaron's biggest musical goals are the continuous development of good sound and good melody. Some of his biggest influences are David Bowie, Miles Davis and Olivier Messiaen. He is an active composer and producer, and has released 5 albums as a bandleader, and appeared on a dozen-or-so albums as a collaborator / side-man. Apart from numerous grants and awards, Aaron is one of the very few who simultaneously won jazz and classical Downbeat Student Music Awards with the same submission. Andy was a member of the San Francisco Boys Chorus as a child, the world renowned San Jose State Choraliers as an undergrad, & performed music from Nintendo’s Zelda series with Skywalker Symphony. Most recently, Andy earned his Bachelors in Music Performance from San Jose State University and has performed throughout the South Bay, with Opera San Jose & as a soloist with SJSU Choraliers and Peninsula Cantare. In addition to teaching voice and piano, he enjoys teaching story theater in elementary schools all across the Bay Area. He is excited to share his knowledge of classical, pop and musical theater with the students of MMS. Born, raised, and educated in the Deep South, music has been his primary form of creative expression since he could crawl over and bang on the piano as a toddler. He has worn a wide range of hats in the music industry and is equally at home as an educator, performer, composer, and producer, with live and studio credits on projects by wide range of artists, including Steve Miller, Bruce Hornsby, and George Benson, among countless others. Tyler’s proudest achievement as a teacher was during graduate school when he helped develop an after-school piano program for at-risk students in North Miami and watched it blossom from ten students to nearly fifty in its first year. More recently, he has also enjoyed offering clinics and lessons for budding students across the globe, which has been a mutually rewarding insight into the intersection of culture and music. He recently spent over a year in Macau, China serving as the music director, composer/arranger, and bandleader for Taboo, a modern circus/cabaret production by Franco Dragone, the former artistic director of Cirque du Soleil. He then combined his passions for music and travel and spent six months aboard a small luxury cruise ship, serving as the onboard musical director and pianist while exploring ports of call in nearly forty countries. After a period of meditation and personal reflection on his experiences abroad, he relocated to San Francisco in October 2017 to discover the unique opportunities present in such a prolific crossroads of music, technology, and world culture. A Native Alaskan, she has a BA in Music from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. During her studies she composed incidental music for theatre department performances, served as a theory tutor for struggling students, and began her teaching career at Hillside Music where she taught for 5 years. She has attended numerous Alexander technique workshops and studied Taubman piano technique, incorporating this understanding into her lessons to ensure all students play freely and uninhibited. Miranda scored a short film that has screened in several international film festivals, served as a composer and music director for several community performances, and has played for weddings and special events. New to the Bay Area, she has already performed synth and backing vocals in an Oakland-based band and is currently finishing her first solo album. I began taking piano lessons when I was 6 years old and fell in love instantly. I had a wonderful piano teacher, whom I adored, who taught me to understand music theory & read music, but also taught me to play by ear & improvise. She taught me to understand the language of music but she also taught me how to stray from the page and create the music that was inside me. To this day, I am eternally grateful for that. When I was 10, I started playing in my church band. It was here that I discovered my passion for playing music with other musicians. This is still a passion that I share to this day. I began teaching private lessons to the kids in my neighborhood when I was 13. I have been teaching private lessons and group workshops ever since. I have a degree in classical piano performance, but have always continued my pursuit of playing in other styles as well (jazz, pop, funk). Over the years, I have accompanied choirs, accompanied soloists, taught private lessons, taught group workshops, played in many different bands, and have ultimately been narrowing my focus toward the aspects of music that I love the most.
