What is a Master Class?
Traditionally a "master class" is a musical event in which students play for a "master" teacher and receive feedback on the spot about their performance. Since MMS students hear from their "master teacher" every week, we use the MMS Master Class as an opportunity for the students to hear from each other. Each student will play once piece (does not have to be memorized!) and then we will open things up for discussion.
Students will learn:
What it means to be a good listener
How to be a good audience member
How to listen actively instead of passively
How to share feedback that is supportive and helpful
The Master Class is an educational event rather than a formal performance. Our Spring Recital in May is an opportunity for students to participate in a "formal" performance. This Master Class is designed as a great warm-up for students and will help them to feel more comfortable at the big show in May!
